Kanshundo Sagano Shop
Stop by a long-standing Japanese sweet shop in your exploration of the Sagano area
Established in 1865, Kanshundo has been run as a Japanese sweet shop for six generations. On the second floor of the shop is a cafe “Sabo Shiori” which is often filled with tourists visiting the Sagano area. Their recommendation is Jo Namagashi (traditional Japanese sweets made from red bean paste and rice flour) as well as Matcha (green tea) Parfait and Anmitsu (agar jelly served with red bean paste and syrup with toppings). Above all, Kuri Zenzai (cooked red bean soup with chestnuts) made using the dainagon red beans produced in Kyoto, gets a lot of fans who say, “I have to come here for the Zenzai”. Inside the shop you can watch professionals making Japanese sweets as well experience making them yourself.
