Golden yellow gingko leaves surrounding the shrine

About 20 km away to the north from the central Kyoto city area on the Shuzan Road, you will discover Iwato Ochiba Jinja Shrine standing where the Kiyotaki River and Iwato River meet.  Two shrines share one shrine gate and hall.  One of them is Iwato Shrine, which enshrines three female deities.  The other is Ochiba Shrine, which enshrines an imperial princess who appears in the Tale of Genji.  There are four outstanding gingko trees in the precinct that become gorgeously yellow in the late autumn.  Thousands of falling yellow leaves create such an incredible scene and the ground is covered with a golden carpet of fallen leaves.  Many people visit the shrine to enjoy this magical view.
