Both the antique building and selection of books are the products of Kyoto
This long-standing bookshop was established in the 18th century. The edifice is the original building from the Edo period (1600-1868). The shop used to be visited by literary people and scholars and the shop’s sign was designed by Japanese painter and calligrapher, Tessai Tomioka, (1837-1924) who frequented the shop to read old Chinese books. Today, the shop offers art books especially block books of Rinpa and Nanga style Japanese paintings.
