An old favorite machiya townhouse accommodation loved by everyone
Entering the main building and the tick-tack nostalgic sound of an old clock welcomes you. The main building is “Azukiya” and the annex next door is “Sem.” The Sem building used to be a clock shop. You can rent either one of them or both. A single guest is also welcomed. Due to its location by the large Nanzen-ji Temple complex, some people stay here to attend Zen meditation and to enjoy autumn colored leaves and the nighttime light up at Eikan-do Temple. Ms. Kitamura, the owner, says, “If you have a few days staying at our accommodation, my recommendation is to try the rice porridge at Hyotei, next to us, for breakfast, visit the fantastic Japanese garden in Murin-an and go on to the Philosopher’s Path and Ginkaku-ji Temple for the first day. On the second day, the Kiyomizu-dera Temple area could be good to spend a day, and finally on the third day, why not take a long walk in the Arashiyama district.” Kitamura’s warm hospitality and delicious breakfast attracts people from around the world.
